Truck catches fire while discharging fuel in Abuja

A Toyota Camry with Abuja number plate, Kuje 491 AP, was destroyed on Thursday in Abuja when a petrol tanker caught fire while discharging fuel at the NNPC Mega filling station along Olu Obasanjo Way.

The tanker with Lagos number plate, BDG 739 XA, belonging to Capital Oil Limited, was partially burnt at the rear.

It took the quick intervention of fire fighters and other security agencies, who mobilised to the scene to put out the inferno, which was already spreading to the roof of the station.

The blow back from the fire, which ignited when the tanker was discharging fuel into the underground tank, was said to have gutted the private car which was being filled with fuel at the time of the incident.

The female driver of the car was said to have abandoned her vehicle immediately the tanker caught fire and the blow back from the fire razed the car. A passport and other personal effects inside the vehicle were partially destroyed by the fire.

The incident occurred barely two weeks after the Conoil filling station on Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Business District was gutted by fire when a tanker was also discharging fuel.

The station was razed down as well as the tanker and a car.
