Amaechi, Rivers Govt Officials Protected By 287 Policemen - Mbu.

The Rivers State Police Command has disclosed that it has no fewer than 287 policemen deployed to provide security for Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and other top government officials in the state.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Muhammad, who was reacting to a recent claim by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, Chief Tony Okocha, that his security details and that of the Secretary to the State Government – George D.N Feyii have been withdrawn by the police, said that various units of the police were deployed to ensure round the clock security for the governor and other officials of the state.
“We wish to further reaffirm our continued protection of Governor Amaechi. In order to put the records straight, below is the retinue of policemen attached to the governor and Government House, Port Harcourt: Governor’s escort-32 policemen, governor’s wife escort-20 policemen, deputy governor-20 policemen, deputy governor’s wife-escort-12 policemen, SSG, five policemen, Chief of Staff, five policemen, Government House-109 policemen,” he said.
He added: “Counter terrorism unit, 18 policemen each for day and night shift guarding the Government House front gate. They are attached with two vehicles – anti bomb squad, 10 policemen; while 10 operatives were rejected and returned by the governor”.
According to Muhammad, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, the total number of policemen attached to Governor Amaechi and Government House stands at 287 and urged the public to disregard the statement credited to Mr. Okocha that his security details have been withdrawn.
Besides, the police spokesman noted that based on an existing circular that emanated from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the Chief of Staff is not entitled to police orderly or guard, stressing that it is only the Secretary to State Government that is entitled to a police orderly.
