There A Secret To Being Happy?

What if I tell you that you can be happy all the time and it doesn’t cost you money, numerous things, or even good looks? Rather, it’s much more simple than that. According to Brother David Steindl-Rast, all you have to do is be grateful. Seems easy enough, right?

Brother David claims that if there is one thing we all have in common, it’s that we all want to be happy. However, few of us know the real way to do so. We all can have the materials to be happy, yet be miserable. However once we are grateful for what we have or where we are, we can find ourselves in a much happier place. Wise words from a wise man.

Brother David was at a recent TED Talk when he told us this secret to living a happier life, and went on to tell us that happiness is born from gratitude. So if one is grateful, they would have found happiness along the way, if not before.

The interfaith scholar and monk tells us that you should always seek to know more and it’s okay to want more. But the moment this gets in the way, and for most of us it does, you lose the ability to be happy. So we should slow down and realize what we have, because it’s probably pretty good.

He claims that one does not have to work for, trade in, or ask for gratefulness. Rather, the power of being grateful is within all of us. And we can experience it all the time, and live gratefully. He claims that we need to be aware that every moment is a gift. and that it is the most valuable thing we have, more than anything else. He says there is a point where we shouldn’t always be grateful. Things such as the loss of a loved one, violence, etc. But we have the ability to rise above it all and be grateful for the opportunity given to us to do so.
