Leadership; The selfless leader.

A quick recap from my previous post on the subject matter, we can recall that it was stated that a leader is a servant. The call to leadership is a call to service. So in this post, I’ll throw more light on the selfless leader.

He is one who serves selflessly; throws himself away in service to his people.

He does not serve his selfish and greedy needs; he strives to make an impact positively on the led.

Suffice to say, he sees himself not as the ‘’boss over all’’, but the least important in all.

He is one who does not cart away the collective wealth of his people all in the guise of economic development, or like they would say ‘’the dividend of democracy.’’ He does not and would never be caught looting the treasury of his people. He is transparent in all his dealings. This is who a selfless leader is.

He always as a matter of choice and priority places his people (the led) first in every decision he makes.

The disheartening truth however, is that a quick and thorough scan through the corridors of power in our beloved country reveals a very infinitesimal number of this kind of leaders.

Leaders who selflessly deliver on their electioneering promises, who are by no means self-serving but are true and upright in their resolve to lead and print their names positively on the sands of time.

He is NOT a slave to his people, NOT a poppet on strings to be controlled by his clansmen, and yes he is NO fool either.

His calmness and meekness; both of which are outstanding qualities that define him, should not be misconstrued for weakness.

He is devout in his quest, and as such ought to surround himself with like-minded people not just in developmental affiliations, but in deeds as well.

Could this mean that what is said about politics being a “dirty game” makes this kind of leaders a rare find in our political space?

Cause this special breed of leaders is exactly what is needed in our political scene.

But let us not digress into politics for now, cause it will be discoursed in due time when we delve into the issues of politics.

So a selfless leader is one who is loved by all regardless of geopolitical affiliation because he is fair in all his dealings.

He is one whom after his time of service can boldly walk the streets without scores of policemen flocking around him as escorts.

A selfless leader indeed is a rare find and our leaders of today and both those of tomorrow have to strive to be termed “selfless.”

Although it takes a whole lot of character and will-power, nothing however is impossible if you put your mind to it.

Again this is a collective responsibility, because being selfless means the society as a whole encourages you to be so.

To be continued...
