Fire guts St. Nicholas hospital in Lagos Monday, February 03, 2014

 

There was pandemonium at the St. Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Island, on Sunday when fire broke out in a room on the 9th floor of the health institution.

It was learnt that the fire, which lasted for over an hour, was caused by an electrical fault. Firemen told our correspondent that the fire did not spread to the medical wards.

The Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe, said no life was lost in the incident. He said, “We got a distress call around 6.07 pm that there was a fire outbreak at the St. Nicholas Hospital and on getting there, we observed that smoke was billowing from a legal office on the 9th floor.

The smoke was so thick that we had to use breathing apparatus to access the place. “Fortunately, the hospital had firefighting equipment and water pump outlet so we deployed two trucks from Sari Iganmu and Onikan with 10,000 litres of water. We were able to put out the fire by 7.15pm.”

Hollywood actor, Hakeem Kae Kazim, has revealed that he turned down several Nollywood scripts as such scripts did not match his standard.

In an interview with HipHopWorld, the British-Nigerian, who played George Rutaganda in the Academy Award-nominated movie, Hotel Rwanda, also disclosed how director, Obi Emelonye, wooed him over to Nollywood with the script of Last Flight To Abuja. “I did the TV series called 24, up in Los Angeles, United States, then one Nigerian director I had met at some film festivals said to me, ‘Nobody knows you are Nigerian in Nigeria’.

YVONNE NELSON: '' I Don’t Enjoy Kissing On Set''

Ghanaian actress and film producer Yvonne Nelson recently revealed in an interview that she doesn't enjoy kissing on set.

''I don’t enjoy kissing on set. I can count how many times I have kissed on set. Majid and John are the two people I have kissed on set. But we don’t attach true feelings to it. If you do, you won’t do well in your career.''

She was also sparingly used in Half of a Yellow Sun. Omotola has not done any major film in recent times. Her last major movie was Last Flight to Abuja about two years ago.

According to Obi Emelonye, producer and director of Mirror Boy and Last Flight to Abuja, this development is not due to the fault of the actresses rather, they have become victims of their own success.

20yr old Nigerian Issac Ojiabo Stabs His Mother To Death In Maryland

20 year old Isaac Anya Ojiabo Jr. (pictured above) has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Joy Ojiabo, who was found beaten and stabbed to death at their million dollar home in Forest Hill, Maryland.

When police arrived at the home of 51 year old Joy Ojiabo around 5pm on Wednesday Jan. 29th, they found her suffering from multiple injuries, "to include a large, wooden handled knife protruding from her chest.". She was pronounced dead 20 minutes later. Isaac Ojiabo Snr, the deceased's husband who called the police said Isaac Jr., had escaped with his mother's Lexus SUV after the stabbing.

Police later located Isaac and the vehicle around 4:35 a.m. Thursday January 30th about a mile and a quarter from the crime scene. He told police they had fought and he lost it. He is being held without bail. Continue...
