Having Excess sugary drinks, desserts and sweets could increase your risk of having a heart attack, the findings of a large US study suggest.

Consuming the equivalent of a can a day of sugar-sweetened fizzy drinks was associated with an increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, JAMA Internal Medicine reports.

Nollywood Actress Angela Ijeoma Okorie Debunks Death Rumour

 

Nollywood actress and model, Angela Ijeoma Okorie, has debunked the rumour of her death during child birth which circulated on Sunday morning through Blackberry Messenger broadcast.

In a message sent through her Facebook page on Monday, the pretty fast rising actress said she is very much alive and bubbling at the movie set of Tchidi Chikere in Enugu, southeast Nigeria.

“Don’t mind the haters, it is their handiwork, I’ll deal with them very soon, I am not dead, in fact as am speaking to you now, am in Enugu, shooting a movie, that’s the work of hateful bitches and I would soon deal with them! Angela Okorie is on set right now with Tchidi Chikere,”

Angela wrote on her Facebook page. She added:

At what point in your life did you decide to be an OAP?

It was during my extra year in the university. I decided to try out some radio stations and Rhythm FM was my first point but it did not work out. After I had tried out a few radio stations, I went back to Rhythm and eventually got the job.

CRY FOR JUSTICE: Nigerian Student Protests In Front Of A European University To Get Tuition Refund (PHOTO, VIDEO)

A student from Nigeria, Adedeji Sunday Akintayo, has been protesting in front of Polonia University in the Polish town of Częstochowa. He demands that the University refund him 6,650 euro - a tuition fee he paid for a Master's programme that he has never started.

"I am protesting because Polonia University owes me 6,550 euro. I applied for studies here. I was offered a place. Then I had to get a visa. But I did not get one in spite of applying twice. This is why my contract [with the University] is not valid. I want to get this money back," the student told reporters from a Polish news channel TVN 24.

Adedeji set up a tent near the premises of the Polonia University on Wednesday, January 29. The residents of the town supported the student by giving him hot drinks and even some money. His friends got a portable radiator for him to keep warm in the cold weather.

Enough Is Enough, Let President Jonathan Be - Prof. Ijomah

I have been in politics in this country, from my days in the university in 1960. I have participated in the elections during the NCNC/Action Group period.

I have followed the politics of Nigeria from the first election before independence. I have witnessed the tragedy of the Western region.

I have witnessed the tragedy of the Civil War. I am old enough to know the events that led to the series of massacres of the Igbos and the Yorubas in the Northern region. I have also witnessed the various coups and counter-coups of the Northern military generals who consolidated power in the Northern oligarchy and misruled this nation for years. I am constrained to caution young and inexperienced politicians that are crossing from one party to the other as if good governance depends on only numerical strength in the House of Representatives and in the Senate. Let us learn from the lessons of history.
