LEADERSHIP; the leader, the led, and the process

Many at times when we encounter this word in our daily lives, we tend to attach little or no importance to it. Its often time misconstrued to mean Lordship or being the ‘’BOSS’’.

Leadership however isn’t just Lordship. It is NOT a ‘’throne’’ for ‘’HIS EXCELLENCY ’’ as is the norm in our beloved country.

Leadership is born out of a sincere and upright desire to serve. To lead, the act of leading; self-less leading is a call to service. NOT an elevation to an exalted stool/throne.

We have in time past come across some great minds, revolutionaries in their own right. People we believed would turn the fate of our country to a positive direction. However, within the first couple of months of assuming that noble role of leadership, like a proverbial chameleon their true colours come to light.

Like the very popular saying; ‘’absolute power corrupts’’, we find corruption gallivanting on the very corridors of power. Our nation under siege by corruption and corrupt minds; a recent chat with a nine year old boy revealed this painful truth.

I asked junior, the nine year old kid just around the block; ‘’what would you love to become when you grow up and why?’’. His response? Guess that should be left for you to imagine.

What then is the way forward? Where can be found, the perfect antidote to this ailment we as a nation surfer?

Our national pride, like water left underneath the scourging sun is steadily and increasingly vaporizing. The very bane of our national unity is constantly threatened by the greed of a select few.

And the ‘’cabal?’’; until a few months ago the existence of which would have been in doubt, howbeit that the same derive profound joy and satisfaction in ruining the economic gains of our nation. Some of which ought to be left for posterity.

What has become of our beloved country Nigeria?

Like everything else wrong with Nigeria and Nigerians, we are always very quick to criticise, cast aspersions and point fingers. Oblivious of course to the fact that ‘’uneasy is the head that wears the crown.’’

Leadership is therefore by no means just about the leader, but also about the led (follower).

Every man has to rise-up, take a stand, and run this course in its stead for a collective gain.

So please join me, as we explore the concept of self-less leadership in the mind burgling series of leadership; the leader, the led, and the process.
