Leadership; the Led (Follower).

As we journey through this series of leadership; the leader, the led and the process, it is my sincere hope that change shall come forth from this. It is my desire that the views expressed in this series, however very personal, would go a long way in restructuring and galvanizing the very fabric of governance towards purposeful leadership. And that the desired change and progress would be met in no time.

In the journey of leadership, the led has a pivotal role to play in the scheme of things. This is the point I aim to drive home with this series.

We must as a people all arise and make our voices heard. We all as a nation, have to shed our reactive scales for a new and vibrant proactive skin.

We ought to be more proactive, and treat the issue of governance and leadership as priority in our daily lives.

 

Many times all we do is criticize, criticize and criticize some more, failing to realise that our stake in the process of leadership far outweighs that of the leader.

Because the leader is NOT “boss”, but appointed NOT to slave, but to SERVE as he guides us through the process.

We ought to jettison all forms of bias, and craft with our own hands our collective and individual future.

 

We should make our voices heard in an orderly and civilized manner. Not just making our voices heard, but making our words count. Those elected to represent should stop playing “god” over their constituencies, and actually do that which they were elected to do.

We need to totally readjust our values and focus more on the things that really matter.

Our focus should not be on how different we are in tribe and tongue, or how different we are in religious beliefs. We should therefore focus on the sovereignty of our nation Nigeria, realising that it is our collective identity and as such needs to be protected patriotically.

 

Let us strive to erase that bold negative imprint of corruption bred by greed. The print that has for so long taunted and stunted our national growth. The imprint that has defined us thus far and has been unknowingly transferred to our little ones.

 

Recalling my conversation with Junior; the kid next door, who said he would love to be a local government chairman. Simply because he had seen the silly show of shame displayed by the local government chairman in his ward on a Christmas trip he took with his family last year.

The share display of stupendous wealth by a man whose visible means of livelihood could not guarantee him owning a 3 bedroom apartment in the choicest part of his state, now flaunts a magnificent hotel for recreation in his community.

This is the debilitating problem facing the led, because our mindset has been constantly polluted by these select few.

 

Enough talk, Let us all arise because it is time to make a change; to forge progressively to our national mountains peak. Grabbing the bull by the horns and with all hands on deck, let us first rearrange our value system. Starting right from our homes, cause every one is a leader in some individual capacity. So adapting to the values discoursed in our earlier post on selfless leadership should be of paramount importance to all.

This is indeed a clarion call to all well-meaning Nigerians. Arise and let us all enforce the desired change.
