Is Eminem Dissing Kendrick Lamar on "Rap God?"

Kendrick Lamar may be the "King of New York," but Eminem is a "Rap God." Em is in attack mode on his latest — which leaked online this week — rolling out rap credentials in a one-man lyrical relay that could very well be a message to hip hop's new school, particularly K. Dot.

 

Em's five-minute flow features curious lines like "Why be a king when you could be a god?" But there's also a more direct hit. Em gives his unnamed adversary (who just happens to be co-signed by Dr. Dre) a longer tongue lashing with the rhyme, "Oy vey, that boy's gay, that's all they say looking boy/You get a thumbs up, pat on the back, and a way to go from your label everyday looking boy/Hey, looking boy, what you say looking boy? I get a 'hell yeah' from Dre looking boy." 

While the Internet chatter around the song suspects there is tension between the Aftermath label mates, Shady Records signee Crooked I thinks Lamar isn't being targeted because he and Em have no beef. "Me knowing who Em is, every time I'm around Em, he has said nothing but good things about Kendrick and Kendrick's art form, so I wouldn't just think that all of a sudden he would just take a jab at him out of nowhere," he told Hip-Hop DX. "That don't make sense, but I can't speak for Eminem. I don't know exactly what he was thinking when he said that, but as a listener, I didn't take it like he was saying that to Kendrick. There's been a lot of people in hip hop who've declared themselves kings. If that's the case, he's shooting at everybody." 

Em hasn't said anything about the rumor, and neither has Lamar. The drama around the record only adds to the anticipation for The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which drops next month.
